The Immortal Truth

  1. Truth, defined in part by Merriam-Webster as “sincerity in action, character, and utterance”, “the state of being the case”, “the body of real things, events, and facts” Merriam Webster.com.  https://www.merriam-webster.com/  (1/25/2019)

The literal definition of the word truth does not provide “truth” the credit or respect it deserves.  Truth is infinite.  Truth is immortal, exempt from death.  Truth is relentless.  Truth never dies; it never changes and it does not grow weary.  Truth is beautiful; truth simply will not and cannot be altered or modified.  We may improperly perceive the truth but this does not change what is factual and true.  Truth is the embodiment of facts.

The passing of time changes nothing.  An event of yesterday or millions of years in the past is no less factual today.  It makes no difference who witnessed the event.  If the only witness to a tree falling in the forest is a playful squirrel, it is no less factual or true.  The truth is and always will be; a specific tree fell on a specific day at a specific time.  Metals corrode, granite erodes truth is eternal.

Truth can be your best friend, or through the act of spreading lies some choose obligating truth to become their worst enemy.  Attempts to conceal the truth litter the history of humanity.  The relentless truth people have attempted to hide with lies is now available for all to see in books, on the internet, within the Smithsonian Institute or museums around the world.

Eventually, at some point, somehow the truth always seems to find a way to bask in the light of day and brilliantly shine through existence.

People sometimes choose to tell lies for personal gain. Expectations of acquired wealth and notoriety cause some to lie.  The desire to avoid punishment for a mistake or crime can become a powerful temptation.  The alluring desire to benefit personally becomes a snare for those willing to lie.  They hopelessly attempt to twist the unmalleable or change the immutable truth.   Their futile attempts may succeed temporarily.  Recipients of the lies and deception may be briefly deceived.

No matter how many times someone repeats an untrue or dishonest statement the enduring truth remains intact patiently waiting.

Recently people have made statements like “truth isn’t truth”, “he was giving alternative facts”, “facts develop” or “facts are in the eye of the beholder.”   These statements seem nothing more than futile attempts to justify previous efforts to conceal, transform or negate the facts.  Ultimately, these hopeless blunders will not succeed.  Consequences resulting from dishonesty can be far-reaching and severe.  The penalty for telling lies often exceeds any desired result.  A constant companion to those telling lies is the fear of wondering when and where the irrevocable truth will find a way.

Forever in opposition to deception is the immortal truth.

Being human, we have all made mistakes, small or grand we have all told a lie.  Latent acts of dishonesty remain in our past. If the option exists, we may attempt to correct our past mistakes.  We can apologize; we can ask for forgiveness.  Guaranteed to us all is the option to be honest from this day forward.  Truth eradicates the fear entwined with lies.   Dignity and valor fill the void.  We can choose to be honest adding nothing more to our list of the past.   We can speak truthfully while the mistakes of the past grow old.    Always present is the decision to speak only truth.  Honesty is simply a choice.  The blissful freedom that comes with honesty, facts and truth is available for all to enjoy.

Ask for forgiveness “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:32 World English Bible    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john+8%3A32&version=WEBF

I am deception, dishonesty and lies.
